Reporter: Hello everybody, you are listening to BBC radio
station and today we have a special guest in our studio, Enrique Iglesias. He
is a famous singer known all over the world. Hello Enrique.
Enrique: Hi
all, first of all I'd like to say im really happy to be here tonight.
Reporter:
So, can you tell us something about yourself?
Enrique: Well, I was born as Enrique Miguel Iglesias
Preysler on May 8, 1975 in Madrid, Spain. I am the youngest in the family and i
have a brother and a sister.
Reporter: When did you first thought about making a
career with singing?
Enrique: When I
was younger, I learned a lot about music from my father Julio Iglesias. I started writing music when I was 15 years old. I studied business administration
at Miami university, but after a year I quit to start my music career.
Reporter: Do you have any role models?
Enrique: Yes,
Lionel Richie, bands Roxy Music, Journey and Foreigner.
Reporter: Tell us how did your career start.
Enrique: I
recorded my first single when I was 20 years old, and next year I released my first album
with 2 hits "SU Tú Te Vas" and "Experiencia Religiosa". For
that album I also got a Grammy award for best latin pop performance.
Reporter: What about when you started to record songs in
English?
Enrique: Starting to sing in English, made a big impact
on my career, one of the first songs was "Bailamos" for the movie
"Wild Wild West". After that I recorded more albums in english.
Reporter:
What about the song lyrics, do you write all songs alone?
Enrique: No, not all lyrics are done by me, I collaborated with more songwriters and also help other singers and groups with
songwriting.
Reporter:
Which songs were the biggest hits?
Enrique: One of
the biggest hits was a song from album "Escape" called
"Hero", it became a number one
song in UK and many other countries, in 2003 my 7th album was also a big success, I went on the
biggest world tour with that album in USA, Australia, India, Egypt, Singapore
and South Africa.
Reporter:
Are you active in charity events also?
Enrique: Yes, I have been singing in different events for
charity, for example "City of Hope", its a research institution
dedicated to prevention and curing cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Reporter: Which were the most important awards you won in
your career?
Enrique: At 1997 I got a grammy award for best latin pop
album and radio music award for best artist. At 2002 I got world music awards
for best selling pop male artist, best selling European and Latin artist.
Reporter: Do you have any plans for serious relationship?
Enrique: Yes, I am married to Anna Kournikova and we really
want to have a children in the future.
